South Africa · Social Relief of Distress
The SRD Grant is still open. Many eligible people have never applied.
The South African government created the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant to support people who have no income and are struggling to meet their basic needs.
Over 13 million people have already received it. But thousands who qualify have still never claimed it — simply because they didn’t know they were eligible.

What many people don’t know
The application process has changed. SASSA now uses an online system — and many applications that should have been approved were declined due to small errors in the form.
Before you apply — or if you were already declined — there are a few key things worth checking first.

Already receiving but not sure if it continues?
Many people who were approved months ago no longer receive payments — without any warning from SASSA. A simple data mismatch is enough to pause your grant.
